Rock Band is probably one of the best party games out there right now. This game has a ton of songs, a great presentation of the graphics and audio, the included hardware is very fun to play with for most people, and the band world tour mode is highly addictive. However, the 170 dollar price tag is a little steep, the hardware isn’t as reliable as you think it would be, and the band world tour mode can’t be played online. Overall though, if you wanted to play guitar, bass, drums, or sing, this game is awesome, great with friends, and a huge hit.
Pros:
+ As party games go, this one tops the charts
+ Included hardware is a lot of fun to play with
+ Band world tour mode is severely addictive
+ Fantastic presentation
+ This game will probably make you a better drummer
Cons:
- $170 price is a lot of money
- Band world tour can’t be played online
- Some hardware reliability concerns
Extras:
Importing Rock Band 1 Songs to Rock Band 2:
* To import the songs from Rock Band 1 onto Rock Band 2, you must first go to the X-Box Live Marketplace or Playstation Store and buy the 5 dollar key (it will be located in the Rock Band section where the songs are) that lets you transfer the Rock Band songs. After you buy it, it will automatically install onto your system. Once that is done, play Rock Band 1 and go to the Options Menu. You will see a new option saying “Export Songs.” After clicking this and hitting Okay, the songs will automatically be exported from the disc to your hard drive for Rock Band 2. You can still play just Rock Band 1 and it’s songs if you don’t feel like playing Rock Band 2, the exporting won’t mess up the disc and you can do it multiple times on multiple PS3’s using the same one key you payed for already. Bought on my PS3 and just logged into my bro’s PS3, downloaded the key for free since it was in my downloads, and exported the songs again onto his HD. *

For those who want to get the whole Rock Band set, look in Craigslist for some local deals. I got the whole set with the drums, guitar, mic, and game for only $60, and it is in excellent condition.
While I am certainly enjoying the “enhanced” features of the game in comparison to Guitar Hero, my BIGGEST peeve about this is the guitar. The guitar flat out sucks. The buttons and strummer are tight. Hammer-ons are much harder to achieve, not only because the hammer-on markers on the screen are just slightly smaller than the notes that need to be strummed, but because I can’t just slide up and down the fret like I normally would in GH.
Anyway, thanks for the review. I agree with you; overall a good game and great for when people come over.
