Gran Turismo 5 Review

Finally, after many years of waiting, the next installment of the Gran Turismo series has appeared. Gran Turismo 5 takes what you like from the series and improves upon it with uncompromised realistic handling. The game is accessible and rewarding for newcomers and veterans alike with tons of great cars to drive and plenty of courses to drive them on. Another improvement is that the license tests are no longer mandatory. The graphics and music in this game are stellar with amazing detail to the premium cars in the game. However, there is an issue and it is the online lobby system. The system itself is outdated and the reason that happened was because it took so long to get released. Overall though, this is the next great addition to the series so if you want another Gran Turismo fix then get this game.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Review

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands was released just a little bit ago and being a POP fan, I had to check it out. This game brings back the old Prince from the original trilogy in a game that is between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within. Also, as far as I know, this game has nothing to do with the movie so you can breathe now. The game’s platforming sections have a lot of thrilling moments and not only do you have the power to go back in time, but you now have the power to control water and wind as well. You also get some stone armor, whirlwind, ice attack, and fire fury which are elemental powers that you can use as long as you have the power for it. The Prince brings his personality back into the game where it adds a little bit of character to the game. However, the combat is very easy, the game is very short (took me 2 days to beat) and there are a few spots that can be tough because of the camera position. Overall though, if you enjoyed the POP games and really enjoyed the original trilogy then you should probably check this out.

God of War 3 Review

I finally got my hands on God of War 3 and let me just say that it is everything that I expected and then some! This game starts right when God of War 2 left off and it still has the satisfying combat with a good variety of useful weapons. The visuals of the game are outstanding and there is an impressive sense of scale. There is something satisfying while fighting on a Titan taking out giant monsters and climbing up the mountain at the same time. The boss battles are also varied and each provide their own challenges. You will be facing giant monsters, gods, and a variety of different enemies leaving nothing but destruction in your wake. Overall this game is awesome and if you enjoyed the other 2 games, you will enjoy this one. I also have to say for anyone that has a Playstation 3, there is no reason why you should not have this game.

Final Fantasy XIII Review

Final Fantasy XIII was recently released and it is the first Final Fantasy game to be released for the 360 and the PS3. I decided to go with the PS3 version because I did not feel like switching out 3 discs on the 360; 1 blu ray is fine with me. Anyways, this game has a very diverse and excellent cast of characters and magnificent production values. The graphics and audio are amazing and the battle system is a lot faster paced than previous games. The storyline is also a major hook and opens up a huge original world. Chapter 11 was one of my favorite areas as it is a big open world where you can basically do whatever you liked. However, that is one of the only open areas in the game. The leveling system and the areas you explore are very linear and don’t stray to far when it comes to alternative paths. Overall though, this game is really impressive and sparked my interest into Final Fantasy games again. If you were to rank this one, I would say that it is better than Final Fantasy 12, a little better than Final Fantasy 10, but not as good as Final Fantasy 7.

Heavy Rain Review

Heavy Rain is probably one of the most unique games for the PS3 as it is an interactive drama. You play as 4 characters trying to track down the identity of the Origami Killer, a mass murderer who kidnaps little boys, drowns them in rain water, and leaves a piece of origami in their hands. This game plays out like a movie in which most of the actions are controlled by you; you determine the end game. The story is a very engaging one that you will not want to put down until you solve the mystery. I will tell you right now that the introduction / first few levels will make you feel bad for Ethan Mars, one of the characters you play as. It reminded me of the first few minutes of the movie Up. The controls for the game have you walk around and then perform various action commands in a cinematic feel that convey drama and tension. The visual representation of the environments and people are amazing and the audio is very compelling and draws you into these characters. However, there are some tech issues like a very off chance of skipping, audio cutting out, etc. Also I think the movement controls could have been improved. I do not think you had to press R2 to walk everywhere. Overall, this is a very immerse, unique experience for the Playstation 3 and I recommend it for everyone. You will not be disappointed.
